I started yoga when I was 16, while training for U18 Canadian Volleyball Chapmionships. Our coach wanted us to practice yoga once a week, to help with the mental pressure, regulate our breathing during the game and to help with injury prevention. After seeing the benefits, I started practicing yoga daily. When I moved to Newfoundland, CA, I struggled with loneliness, being in an isolated community where they have harsh winters. I started going to a yoga studio 3 or 4 times a week, and tried various types of yoga. During the pandemic, I was studying my MSc. Degree in Superyacht Design in Southampton, UK and I was living in my 8m sailing boat. With the restrictions, I couldn't go out sailing, or climbing with my friends, and I started struggling with that similar feeling of loneliness, with an additional stress of writing my thesis. I started practicing yoga and meditation everyday, sometimes 2 times a day, at sunrise and sunset. Seeing these benefits of yoga for myself, I started helping my friends and their friends through zoom yoga lessons, yoga nidra sessions and guided meditation practices. Then, I decided to do a 200hr YTT course, to do this as a career.
I have been doing sports since at a very young age, started with ballet and sailing, when I was 6. Currently, I do scuba diving, free diving, rock climbing, mountaineering, windsurfing, sailing, hiking, weight lifting and aerial silks. Having an understanding of various sports, I have helped people to add yoga in their lifes to aid for the sports that they do.
I am continuously researching and learning about Eastern health and medicine practices, such as Ayurveda, Tibetan Yoga and traditional Chinese medicine, health & wellness practices. I have been encooporating Tai-Chi in my Vinyasa flow classes, as I believe that its flowing movements have amazing benefits to calm the body and mind.
Currently, I am teaching both group and one-on-one classes at a yoga studio in Istanbul. However, I would like to work remotely, as I am a mountaineer and I would like to be in the mountains while teaching yoga. I teach a wide age group ranging from 17 to 65. I have experience with clients who have knee, shoulder, ankle and back injuries.
I try to encourage my students and people around me to live closer to nature. I am sharing my travels and yoga practices through my instagram account: @yogibearil. I am hoping to inspire people to take care of their health & wellbeings through travelling, connecting to nature and practicing yoga.
